Azurite, Cerulean, Cobalt...

The art exhibit New Blues went up in the gallery today. It is really beautiful. The artist is Barbara Zucker and she has put together a showing of her cyanotypes. They are these wonderfully moody photographs comprised completely of shades of blue and white. The contrast between the white paper and the blues is very striking.

For those of you not in the know, or too busy to follow the link, the cyanotype process is a contact printing process dating from the early 1840s that requires a negative the same size as the print you wish to make. They are always blue and no two images will be exactly alike.

There will be more than twenty framed prints taken at locations in America, Europe, and Hong Kong. One of the prints, The Jewel Box appeared in Virginia Publishing's recent Saint Louis Seen and Unseen (which is available at Subterranean). There will be unframed images, as well as prints that are matted, framed and signed, both available for purchase.

The exhibit will be up from Friday, November 10, through Sunday, December 10. The free opening reception will take place at the store and will run from 7-9 p.m. on November 10.
